How Did I Become a Counsellor?
At eighteen, I started work for a builders merchant called Travis Perkins, unaware that thirty years ago women didn't work for Builders Merchants! I later moved to City Plumbing and spent the next twenty years, in management roles there. Until I made the decision to take a demotion and became a part time sales assistant, staying with City Plumbing. This gave me time to return to education, and volunteer.
I started to volunteer for SHOUT on their text helpline, whilst studying for a Psychology Degree with the Open University. After which I started training to be a counsellor, which took a further three and a half years. During my training I worked for eighteen months as a placement counsellor at a National Cancer Charity and South Manchester Centre for Counselling.
Since Elbee Counselling was established I have worked with clients for many different reasons, including; relationship breakdown, cancer diagnosis, grief, anger, menopause, self worth, anxiety, adult child estrangement depression and ADHD.
I have specialist knowledge of Perimenopause and Menopause, Type 2 Diabetes, Weight Loss Jabs, Adult Estranged Children, Adult Children of Alcoholics and Men's Mental Health.
I have experience of working within the LGBTQIA+ community, including with both male and female trans clients. I passionately believe everyone has the right to feel safe, seen and heard. It is my hope that the counselling environment we create together, will always provide a safe space for you.
To my male clients I just want to add that thirty years in Plumbing and Heating means I speak your language, whatever your background, just bring yourself.
I have a passion for supporting clients and I encourage you to reach out for counselling, without fear of judgement or stigma. I've been there myself and I understand just what a difficult first step it can be.

Why Counselling?
The honest answer is because counselling has helped me in the past.
I am the daughter of an Alcoholic Mother. Unfortunately I didn't realise the impact this had on me, until I was in my thirties.
I'd always considered myself to be broken, always feeling unloved and alone but never knowing why. I struggled to feel secure in friendships and relationships. Often only feeling understood through music, connecting to lyrics. I made bad choices and allowed myself to be treated badly.
Counselling allowed me to work through my feelings, it helped me to join the dots together. Gradually I realised that I wasn't broken anymore. Life was lighter and I could learn to be happy, have boundaries and prioritise myself.
Now I like to think of myself as being beautifully broken.

What are my Qualifications?
As a qualified counsellor, I am passionate about completing ongoing, continuous professional development. This ensures that I gain additional skills and keep my knowledge up to date.
